King Austin and his Royal Boo Boo
Once upon a time, in a living room not so far away, King Austin was playing in his castle under the table in the living room. All of a sudden, a strong gust of wind blew and he fell over... right into the stone fireplace wall!! We heard two loud thumps, a brief silence, then the worst blood-curdling scream EVER!!!
Over the next twenty four hours, King Austin seemed a little less like himself. He was mean, aggressive and clingy. He had a temp, said his head hurt, didn't want to eat and sitting in Mommy's lap was the only thing that made him happy. We finally decided to head to the local emergency room to make sure his sweet head could retain the crown.
Austin did really good at the hospital. We entertained him with coloring, books, animals and glove balloons. He had a head CT to check his royal brains and everything came back fine. He's still a little cranky and clingy today but I guess when you're the king, you're allowed! The best thing we heard at the royal hospital... He's a boy. This won't be his LAST concussion!!
Whac-a-mole
While trying to entertain two cranky kids last week, we enjoyed a game of whac-a-mole together. Or should I say whac-a-hand or whac-a-sibling???

Happy Birthday Gavin!!
Our friend Gavin celebrated his fifth birthday on last Wednesday at Chuck E Cheese. Cady and I went to celebrate!! While we waited for dinner, we played games... LOTS of games!
Apparently when you play skeeball, you have to hold your face just right....
Adjusting to kindergarten... AKA 'THAT' mom
After school on the first day, Austin and I waited in a really long car line to pick up Cady. All the morning kindergarten kids come outside and sit on their backpacks, waiting for the parents to pick them up.
Here is the sign that I hang in the window...
The kids waiting...
Cady is the kid in the middle. It's almost her turn!
This is her teacher Mrs. Johnson, walking her to the car.

Her first day of kindergarten was a big success. She colored pictures, talked to her new friend Avery and listened to books by Mrs. Johnson. Cady was still beaming and talking about how cool school was at bedtime. She couldn't wait to call our family and tell everyone about it!
This kindergarten thing has been as much of an adjustment for me as it has been for Cady. Way back when, I had decided that I would drive her to school for the first month or so. This would give us both a chance to get used to the whole kindergarten thing. When she turned six, I MIGHT be ready to let her ride the bus. During kindergarten orientation, we learned that the teachers help get the kindergartners off the bus and to the classroom the first couple of weeks of school. I decided to go ahead and let her ride the bus now, so she wouldn't be a lost sheep in September. The first day, I drove her to school. The second day, we got in the van and headed to the bus stop. The bus picks the kids up right at the corner of our street. Why did we get in the van... oh, you just wait! Cady was THRILLED, to say the least. She practically ran over the other kids to get onto the bus! It was super-cute to watch her walk up those tall steps, climb into her seat in the front row, and check out the bus. She told me after school that the bus was "cool" and "really loud in there" and she sat by a girl named Kristen.
In the van waiting for the bus
Waiting excitedly
There she goes!

She looks so little on that big kid bus!

Now for the explanation... So somehow, in the past week, I became 'THAT' mom. Not sure what I mean?? Just look!! Here's Cady's bus...
Driving through our neighborhood...
Pictures taken through the front window of the van...
Oh, yes... I became 'THAT' mom... the one that follows the bus to school... then parks on the side street waiting for the kids to get off the bus... while taking lots of pictures. (BTW, that is Austin's teacher Mrs. Holbrook in the sunglasses)...
...'THAT' mom that watches while the kids stand and wait for the school bell to ring... while taking lots of pictures...
...'THAT' mom that tries to hide yet gets caught... and then gets waved off by her seemingly embarrassed five year old... while taking lots of pictures...
Oh well... I guess she'll just have to get used to it!!
The second day of kindergarten, Cady came home with a few stories and a little bug... both of which she decided to share with our family. She signed her name in the attendance book, read more stories and colored pictures. The little bug... well let's just say we all spent the next several days bonded by yucky bellies. Next time, leave that at kindergarten!!!
